Some Atfarm features have a technical limit on field size. Please bear this in mind when adding your fields to Atfarm.
Maximum field size
When you draw or upload a field, the maximum field size is
1,500 ha
If you're uploading field boundaries and there are several fields in a file, the total number of hectares can of course exceed this number. However, a single field can't exceed 1,500 ha.
By limiting the field size, we can guarantee high resolution Variable N-Rate Application maps. A Variable N-Rate Application map shows application pixels as squares or dots representing the centre of a 20 x 20 m square (spatial resolution of the pixels from the satellite data). This design allows you to still see the biomass of your field through the pixels.
The scaling of the squares depends on the size of the field. The larger the field, the larger the scale (20 x 20 m, 40 x 40 m, 60 x 60 m, 80 x 80 m, etc.). The larger the scaling, the lower the spatial resolution of the pixels from the satellite data. Therefore, we limit the field size to 1,500 ha to ensure an accurate Variable N-Rate Application map.
Maximum file size and file formats
When you upload a file with your field boundaries, the maximum file size is
6 MB
You can upload a single field boundary in one file, or multiple field boundaries in one file using the file formats below. You can select and upload one file per upload process.

Minimum field size
Satellite Monitoring
You can check the biomass status of your field with recent satellite images and biomass layers in Atfarm if the field is at least
100 m² = 0.01 ha
Smaller field sizes aren't supported by the satellite data provider.
Variable N-Rate Application
We use satellite imagery to calculate a vegetation index for creating Variable N-Rate Application maps in Atfarm. To get accurate results, it's important that your field is at least
10,000 m² = 1 ha with a minimum field width and length of 50 m
This size is the technical requirement of Atfarm's boundary handling algorithm based on the Yara N-Sensor technology. The algorithm overcomes the challenge of mixed information at field boundaries, where satellite pixels may contain data from adjacent structures such as roads, grass paths, waterways or trees. As these pixels are excluded from the calculations, the algorithm replaces their data with the average of neighbouring pixels that are completely within the field. This process ensures accurate and reliable information for effective precision fertilisation.
