How can I create an application map without a recent cloud-free satellite image?

Cloud-free satellite imagery is a prerequisite for analysing crop growth with biomass indices and thus for creating Variable N-Rate Application maps.

 

If the most recent cloud-free image of your field is older than five days, you can calculate the N-uptake from a cloud-free image up to 25 days in the past and then use the extrapolated image to create an application map. Read more about the growth estimation technology here.

 

Proceed as follows:

 

  1. On a computer: Log in to the Atfarm web app from your desktop browser. / On mobile: Log in to the Atfarm mobile app on your mobile device.
  2. Select the desired farm from the farm overview.
  3. Select the desired field from the field overview.
    • The technology is currently available for these crops: barley, maize, oats, rye, triticale, wheat.
  4. If the most recent cloud-free satellite image is older than five days, an option to extrapolate a recent cloud-free satellite image is displayed below the map.
  5. Web app: Click Calculate to start the extrapolation. / Mobile app: Click Extrapolate to start the extrapolation.
  6. If another map layer was previously selected, the map layer will automatically switch to the N-uptake map.
  7. Once loaded, you can see the extrapolated image.
  8. Web app: Click Get recommendation and select Variable N-Rate Application from the options. / Mobile app: Scroll down and click Add application map under Variable N-Rate Applications.
  9. Web app: Select the biomass map date from the dropdown. / Mobile app: Tap on a date below the map to select the biomass map date.
    • You can select cloud-free and extrapolated images. Extrapolated images are indicated by a special icon.
  10. Select the growth stage from the next dropdown.
  11. Continue with the creation of the application map. Find detailed instructions on creating an application map here.
